Getting married at Casa di Giulietta
Casa di Giulietta, at Via Cappello 23 in the heart of Verona, is the house the city has tied to Shakespeare’s Capulet family since the nineteenth century. The courtyard holds the bronze Juliet everyone comes to photograph: sculptor Nereo Costantini’s original was installed in 1973, moved indoors for safekeeping in 2014, and replaced in the courtyard by a faithful replica. The balcony above it is not medieval, whatever the postcards suggest — it was added in 1939 by the architect Antonio Avena, built around a genuine medieval marble sarcophagus brought in for the purpose. Knowing that doesn’t make the spot any less photogenic; it just means the romance here was built deliberately, by people who understood exactly what visitors wanted to see.
The house is also one of the Comune di Verona’s official venues for civil marriage: ceremonies are held in the Sala Capuleti, inside the house itself, one of five rooms the city offers couples alongside the Cappella dei Notai at Palazzo della Ragione, the Sala Arazzi at Palazzo Barbieri, and the Sala delle Muse and Sala Giacomo Galtarossa at the Museo degli Affreschi. The museum closes to the public during a ceremony; the courtyard, by all accounts, keeps its own rhythm regardless, since it is one of the most visited corners of the city.
Since 1 April 2026 the visitor route itself has changed: the public now enters through the Teatro Nuovo on Piazzetta Navona and exits onto Via Cappello, and every ticket — including VeronaCard and free entries — has to be booked online in advance, with nothing sold on site. None of this changes how a wedding here is booked, which still goes through the city’s Ufficio di Stato Civile, but it is worth knowing before you plan where your own guests will stand, and when.

What the Sala Capuleti actually means for the morning
This page is about one specific room inside one specific house, not about Verona as a whole — the hub page for weddings in Verona covers the villas and the Castello di Montorio for couples who are not marrying here.
A small room, not a grand hall
The Sala Capuleti is intimate by design: there is no center aisle to walk down and no distance between the couple and the row of guests who fit inside. Everyone is close, the ceremony itself is brief, and a camera can be a step away from your face at any point from the moment you walk in.
The courtyard, before and after
The bronze Juliet and the balcony are a few steps from the Sala Capuleti, in the courtyard that stays open to visitors through most of the day. Couples who want photographs there as a couple, rather than among the crowd, generally arrange the timing with their planner well before the day, around the house’s own visitor flow rather than against it.
The wall that no longer takes messages
For years, couples and visitors wrote love notes on the gallery wall at the courtyard entrance, in marker, in every language. Since 2019 that has been banned and the wall is cleaned and watched, so it is worth knowing in advance if your own photographs assumed it would still be covered in handwriting — it won’t be.
One room among five
The Comune also offers the Cappella dei Notai at Palazzo della Ragione (capped at 40 guests), the Sala Arazzi at Palazzo Barbieri on Piazza Brà, and the Sala delle Muse and Sala Giacomo Galtarossa at the Museo degli Affreschi, the latter also open for short Thursday slots. If your ceremony ends up in one of these instead, the plan below still applies — all five are inside the old town and close enough together that the getting-ready logistics barely change.
This describes the Comune’s own venue, not a guess at your particular booking. Confirm your exact slot and any access arrangement with the Ufficio di Stato Civile, and write the time to Elena as soon as you have it.
